Rigger’s House is a bold reworking of a 1950s ex-authority home in Wigginton, transforming it into a contemporary, landscape-led dwelling.
Inspired by West Coast modernism, the project uses advanced timber construction to create a home that is both sustainable and biodiversity-enhancing.
A new rear extension forms a light-filled kitchen and dining space, with seamless corner glazing opening up long views across the wooded garden. Internally and externally, the building is wrapped in natural cork — a carbon-negative material that brings warmth, texture and environmental performance.
At the front, the entrance is reimagined and repositioned to the side, creating a simple, refined porch and unlocking a more generous internal layout. Each intervention is carefully embedded within the landscape, softening the architecture and strengthening its connection to the garden.
At roof level, a new loft master suite with ensuite completes the transformation — turning a modest house into a modern, expressive and highly efficient home.
