The original building onsite dates from the 1840s. Once a small stable for a horse and trap it has long been neglected. We were asked to revitalise the building and put it back into a working way of life.
The original roof structure was beyond repair, by removing this we allowed a new volume to rise from within the original walls. The cross laminated timber volume is defined by a notch or sliced off corner to the form. The notch is defined by a large glass aperture which frames the sky and horizon.
A home studio on the first floor is accessed by a Cross laminated timber bespoke staircase. This open plan studio space filled with light, complete with a stepped planters for tropical plants.
